This week’s special guest, Richard Seale, needs little introduction in rum circles. He’s a fifth-generation rum purveyor, the master distiller and owner of Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados, a champion of transparency in rum production and marketing, and a self-proclaimed Guardian of Rum.

His rums have a rabid following, inspiring rum fans to snatch limited bottlings up the day they hit the shelves. He’s also one of the most accessible distillers in the world, regularly answering questions from consumers and fans directly in The Ministry of Rum and Global Rum Club on Facebook regarding production methods, biochemistry, and special releases.

FAIR WARNING: we get a little geeky right off the bat in this episode. Bear with us and we guarantee you’ll enjoy the ride.

Wow! This is really interesting and inspiring! I’m not in the rum business, nor a true geek, but I like to see myself as a rum enthusiast. And I must say this is great! Listening to Mr Seale talking passionately about rum and the difficulty of getting ‘real’ rum recognized for what is is. The difficulty of dealing with multinational brands who pervert the good rums of Jamaica, Barbados and the French Caribbean isles, is so interesting. Thank you for that! 😊

Thanks for your note. I learn so much from Richard when I hear him speak. He always answers questions that I didn’t even know I had. If you’re new to the show, check out our older episodes with Ben Jones, Kate Perry & Christelle Harris, Ed Hamilton, Nick Feris, Kevin Beary, Martin Cate, etc. We talk rum quite a lot. Actually, about every episode. Ha! Mahalo!
